Stockport Car Scheme

About Us

See why we help the people of Stockport.

Stockport Car Scheme is a local registered charity for Stockport residents who struggle to use public transport. We have been running for over 30 years. We have volunteers who use their own cars to provide door to door assisted transport. All clients will be assessed on their suitability when registering.

Our Major Aims

Our Core Values

Enabling those with mobility challenges to live active, self-sufficient lives.

Building social connections through caring, inclusive transport support.

Rooted in generosity—the scheme depends entirely on time given freely by volunteers.

Maintaining trust through checks, training, and safe vehicles.

Matching people with drivers and offering flexible, accessible ride options.

Ensuring fair treatment across all aspects—from service delivery to volunteering.

We also take carers to appointments either on their own or with the person they care for.

All volunteer drivers have undergone security and police checks.  They pick up passengers as directed and will wait to return them home again if requested.  Should the visit be over one hour arrangements may be made for a later pick up.

All our drivers are volunteers who give up their time and use their own cars to provide a flexible door to door transport service.

We offer assisted shopping for people who need extra help and support.  Some drivers can help to carry shopping and go round the shop if needed.

We also have an accessible vehicle.  Anyone who wishes to use it would need an assessment to ensure the wheelchair fits safely into the vehicle.
